What`s on TV?

I waited more than a month before I was able to download Joost. After watching a few videos, I guess it’s worth the wait. Joost (pronounced “juiced”) is an Internet TV developed by the same guys who created Kazaa and Skype. It’s currently on beta version that’s why you need an invite to be able to download the software. The easiest way to get one is from existing Joost users. I got mine the hard way, I signed up and waited until they sent me an invitation.

The video quality is pretty good, definitely better than YouTube. The videos did stutter sometime especially during peak hours. I guess it depends on how fast your internet connection is. It is ad-supported so you do get ads occasionally but not as often as regular TV. Unlike regular TV, you can watch the same video as often as you want.

I find the interface quite user friendly and it has an added feature on social networking so you can chat with other users who watch the same videos as you. According to this site, Joost has signed up deals with ad and content providers so we can expect more video choices coming up.

Here are screenshots provided by Joost website.

The minimum hardware and system requirements for you to be able to install the software are:

CPU: 500MHz
RAM: 512 MB
Video: 48 MB
Windows: XP
DirectX version 9.0c

Joost blog has announced that users can now extend unlimited invites. I’m feeling generous right now so if you want an invitation, just drop me a line.
