Philippines Gold Medal Winner Will Receive Reward

by PromdiBlogger on August 28, 2008

It’s a good thing that the winner of the Philippines Gold Medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the rest of the Wushu team will be given cash incentive. Willy Wang, the Gold Medal winner in the 2008 Beijing Olympis for wushu, will receive P500,000, Mary Jane Estimar, the Ilongga SIlver Medal winner will receive P300,000 and Bronze medal winners Benjie Rivera and Marian Mariano will each receive P100,000. The P1 million cash incentive was from the First Gentleman Foundation.

More cash incentives are expected for the winners since San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation also pledged additional rewards. This is in addition to the P500,000 cash incentive approved by the Philippine Sports Commission board.

If the Philippines Gold Medal was won in a regular Olympic event, the gold medalist would have received as much as P15 million. However, all 15 athletes failed to win an Olympics medal. Although, Wushu is only a demonstration sport and is not counted in the official medals tally, the medals they took home brings as much pride for the country. The Wushu national team deserve all the cash rewards they can get. Mabuhay kayo!
