My Google Adsense story and how I landed on TopBlogs
I didn’t bother learning Search Engine Optimization since I thought I blog for the sake of blogging so what do I care if people visited my site or not? I’d be a hypocrite if I say I didn’t want to be a little famous and may be earn a little. But I want to improve on my content first and worry about SEO later.
My site traffic increased last week to a level that landed me on the Top 10 list on the Personal Blogs Category of TopBlogs. How did a blog that was not even on the Top 100 list was able to make it on the Top 10 in a matter of days? Well, it’s because of an addict and an earthquake.
One of the blogs I often read is that of self-confessed SEO Addict Marhgil Macuha. He has good content and gives very good SEO advice. Actually, just by reading his posts will give you an idea on what keywords to optimize, which is what I did last week. It’s like a little experiment for me since I only started reading on SEO just recently.
I read his post on the 8.1 earthquake prediction of Juseleeno Nobulega Daroose and he said just by blogging about it he’ll be able to earn several dollars more on his Google Adsense. Really? I want to know if it really works so I also blogged about it.
My post on the Philippine earthquake prediction had 5,600+ views and my follow up post on Daroose had 1,200+ views. The most number of page views I had previously for a post was only 400+. The highest I got on Personal Blogs Category of TopBlogs was No. 6.
I think Macuha deserved a beer from me but he says he doesn’t need it so I donated $2 to ABS-CBN Foundation instead. Hey, I don’t earn a lot you know. If I did I would have given him a case of beer. Now, my only problem is how to stay on the Top 10 list or even just on the Top 50 of the Personal Blogs category. As of this writing I’m already below the Top 50 and slowly falling into the abyss. I need to really work hard on SEO.
Another good thing that came out of my one week of fame is that I was able to earn $10 on my Google Adsense. Yup, I will already receive my Google Adsense PIN in the mail 2-4 weeks from now. When I will receive my first payment is yet another story.
By the way, this is my 100th post after more than two years of blogging. How pathetic.
