Iloilo Needs Your Help

by PromdiBlogger on June 27, 2008

The destruction that typhoon Frank/Fengshen brought to Iloilo is by far the worst the province has ever experienced. The flooding was unprecedented and the extent of the damage was unparalleled. Numerous lives had been claimed and many others became homeless.

Latest data from the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council as of 9am 26 June 2008 show that 124 persons died in Iloilo, 569,142 persons affected, of whom 22,057 were still in evacuation centers. The damages in agriculture and infrastructure in Iloilo was estimated to reach billions of pesos.

Iloilo badly needs help!

The CIty and Provincial governments of Iloilo still have a lot on their hands. Most parts of the province still has no electricity, communication in some areas were cutoff, there’s also shortage of potable water and food in evacuation centers. Medicines are also needed especially for water-borne diseases.

Any form of assistance to the affected families will be greatly appreciated. Donations can be coursed through the contacts below.

To my fellow Ilonggos, please spread the word. Iloilo needs all the help it can get. Typhoon Frank may have left us battered and broken but we will survive. Scarred perhaps, but a stronger Ilonggo community.

We (well, my parents) donated boxes of canned goods, noodles and old clothes to the typhoon victims in Panay. Its not that much but hopefully it can help somehow.

And no matter how much I loathe them, I still feel bad for my cousins who lost their home to Frank. I just realized… may puso pa gid man gali ko.

Nothing is too small if it’s given whole-heatedly. Hehehe…you’re human after all. And as the cliche goes, blood is thicker than water.
