Goodbye Calendar, Hello Lotto

Happy birthday to me! I just turned 32 arggh! Actually I will turn 32 later at dawn. My mother told me I was born at dawn when the band at our barangay chapel plays the “diana”. You see, it was also our barangay fiesta, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The whole barangay is celebrating my birth! As if they knew  all the while that I’m a gifted child. I’m a menopausal baby and as what they say about menopausal babies, they either turn out to be intelligent or retarded. Guess which category I belong?

My Nanay almost lost me at childbirth if not for the talented Miss Paltera. Shows how promdi I am, right? I forgot her name already (sign of old age) but I can still remember how she fondly called me anak when she was still alive. She would always recount how I almost died when my Nanay gave birth to me. I used to be scared of her when I was a kid. You see, one of her index fingers didn’t have a nail. I don’t know if it was cut-off or a birth defect. I can’t complain, those hands helped brought me to this world.

So today, I bid goodbye to the calendar. It was a meanigful 31 years of my life’s journey. I may not be successful by some people’s standards but I believe I lived those years fully. And now I say hello to Lotto and maybe to Bingo too in the future. I hope I will make this journey more worthwhile than the past 31 years. I hope I will touch more lives and be a positive influence to others. If God gave me the gift of life at birth, I pray I will make my life a blessing to others.
