Gatas, Gatas, Paano ka Ginawa?
We should all be concerned about the recent milk crisis caused by melamine contamination of milk from China. I’m lucky I don’t have to worry since I seldom drink milk. I’m lactose intolerant. But how about those people who love drinking milk? Should they stop drinking milk altogether? Well, you can always drink fresh milk.
There are several provinces in the Philippines where the National Dairy Authority has established dairy zones for milk processing. Negros Occidental is one of these provinces and there is a dairy processing center in La Granja, La Carlota City owned and operated by the Negros Federation of Dairy Cooperatives (NEFEDACO). These fresh milk are being used in the feeding program of local government units. NEFEDACO markets it’s fresh milk under the brand name Le Grand Dairy and also comes in different flavors.
Another member cooperative of NEFEDACO is the Codcod Multi-Purpose Coop. (CMPC). However, due to it’s distance from the processing center, it’s no longer practical for the coop’s milk products to be processed in La Carlota thus they opted to have their own processing plant in Brgy. Codcod, San Carlos City. CMPC markets its fresh milk under the brand Highland Squeeze Dairy.
We had a chance to visit the processing plant and observe their operation. My short video,“Gatas, Gatas, Paano ka Ginawa?” is a product of this visit. This is my first attemp in video editing so please bear with me. I tried to inject humor into it but I’m afraid it came out as a little corny. Watch the video and see for yourself.
