The Deparmten of Health has confirmed the first case of A(H1N1) influenza, most commonly known as the Swine Flu, in the Philippines. She was a 10-year old girl who arrived in the country last May 18 from the United States.
Let’s hope the country is better equip to deal and let’s hope this will be the first and last case. In order to minimize chances of acquiring the A(H1N1) influenza, DOH advises to “observe proper hygiene, strengthen resistance and do social distancing”.
Those who are arriving from abroad are likewise advised to submit themselves to quarantine screening and continuously monitor their health.
For more information on the A(H1N1), please visit the site of the World Health Organization. Prevention may be our best defense against A(H1N1) so we need all the information we can get about it.

oh my, we need to be extra careful
other websites say the young girl is from Canada? DOH website seems not updated yet
She traveled to the US and Canada. I hope they can update the site especially since the public should know more about H1N1.
Well, you’re correct in so far as taking precaution is concerned. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure. But the advice of the DOH that we have to do some “social distancing” may not work to us Filipinos, who always value kinship, closeness and warm family ties.
Fortunately for us, there is only one case yet for swine flue, from the 10 year old girl who arrived from the U.S. but who visited Canada first, before going to the U.S. and coming to the Philippines. One case is not alarming, as one swallow does not make a summer.
At the same time, while we are taking precaution, it does not mean distancing ourselves from friends and acquaintances. Life goes on.
