I almost did not catch my 6:15am boat trip last Sunday, January 27. I only had two hours of sleep after Lea Salonga’s concert. I set my alarm to 5am and I remember waking up but knowing how much of a sleepyhead I am, I probably slept again. When I woke up to a text from my officemate, it was already quarter to five. It must have been the fastest …

The moment she sang her first song, we were at her mercy. Lea Salonga wowed Bacolod City with her voice and her charm. The University of St. La Salle Coliseum was jam packed, all 7,000 or so seats. She is truly world class. Totally amazing. Totally awesome.

If you are reading this blog chances are, you are a promdi. The word Promdi was coined in the early 1990s 70s that literally means ‘fom the province‘ (prom di prabins). Anyone given this moniker is presumed to be an ignorant, uneducated provincial person. To be called a Promdi in Metro Manila would be a grave misfortune. Most Promdis who want to fit in with …

I grew up hearing Aswang stories and how they love to eat children who still roam the neighborhood after 6 pm. That had me scurrying to go home every time it gets dark, even if I’m in a middle of a hide and seek game. The threat of getting whacked with a guava twig on the butt didn’t succeed in getting me home before six, the thought of Aswang surely …

My post on the expense I incurred in connection with my credit card reminded me of a joke on the spending habit of Ilonggos (from Panay), Negrenses, and Cebuanos.
Cebuanos spend today what they earned yesterday.
Ilonggos spend today what they earned today.
Negrenses spend today what they will earn tomorrow.
I think there’s a little truth on this based on what I have observed, generally speaking. A credit card agent once told …

Somebody’s getting married! Unfortunately, it’s not me. My friend ‘Bakiks’, as we fondly call each other, is getting married on December 26. I was a little worried at first since she asked me to be a Ninang. A Ninang at my age? Isn`t that going to bring bad luck and make me an old maid? I heave a sigh of relief when she told me it`s going to be a …

I was rummaging through my stuff last weekend to sort out the things that I need to bring to Iloilo for disposal or for giving away. I noticed that I already have a few sets of undies that need to go. I sometimes keep my favorite ones even if they already show signs of wear and tear as my pang-balay (to be worn at home). I find old undies very …

I had the chance to watch ABS-CBN’s Goin’ Bulilit yesterday and had a good laugh at their Ysabellat, a spoof of Ysabella. I wonder how my young nephews and nieces reacted to it. Belat is still very taboo to us Ilonggos.
I know belat in Tagalog is what you say when you stick out your tongue to somebody, simply bee or bwe to us Ilonggos. Kids often do that and …

Saw this video from exploreiloilo and I decided I just have to link it here. This video was a joint project of Mayad Studios and Iloilo Convention and Visitors Bureau (ICVB) and I must say they made an excellent job.

Those who watch Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 are already familiar with Ilonggo Nel Rapiz. This guy’s really funny. He’s so confident and profess himself to be a lady killer. When asked how many girlfriends he had he said 9 excluding the flings which he said he had 6.
Ay abaw! Tikalon gid. Daw sa piho. Pobre nga mga babayi. Kabalo ayhan sila nga girlfriend mo sila? Hehehe…
