Monday’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) of GMA will be the most interesting for me. I hope I won’t hear a lot of rhetoric and gimmicks in this year’s SONA. The Filipinos need realistic outputs and not drawings on the board. I’ve had enough of ‘bangkang papel’. As an Ilonggo idiom goes, basa na papel ni GMA. She needs more than gimmicks to salvage what’s left of her reputation.
During the 2004 elections it was the Visayas which gave her the biggest margin. But where was she when Visayas especially Western Visayas needed her? When most of us were reeling from the effects of Typhoon Frank our dear president was in the US scrambling to have a meeting with Barrack Obama who was not even a president yet. Her brief visit in Iloilo after she returned could not suffice for her abandonment. It seems America is more important to our president than her countrymen.
The wounds left by Typhoon Frank are deep and still raw. We will be watching Madam President.
