The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opened at 8:08 pm yesterday, August 8, 2008 or 08-08-08. The Chinese considers the number 8 the luckiest so it’s no wonder they chose that date for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening.
To the beat of 2,008 drummers, the thousands in attendance and millions watching in their homes all over the world counted down to the final seconds before the show began. And what a spectacular show it was! You gotta hand it to the people who invented the fireworks. It was indeed the “Biggest Show on Earth”, and the most expensive one too.
The Chinese government allegedly spent $40 billion for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Computed at the peso-dollar exchange rate of P44 to $1, that would be P1.75 trillion. The 2008 budget of the Philippines is only P1.227 trillion. Heck, that money is more than enough to run our country for one year! So can the Philippines ever hope of hosting the Olympics? Maybe not in a hundred years.

Yup, and the performances are also full of martial arts. The Chinese has a very rich culture. The fireworks are simply awesome.
I loved how at the end it looked like there were fireworks at every corner of Beijing. I’ve been obsessed with opening ceremonies since Barcelona 92. Every single time the cauldron is lit, I can’t help but get teary-eyed. Senti. Hahaha.
i don’t like the pArt wen dey said this at the end “So can the Philippines ever hope of hosting the Olympics? Not in a million years.”….it’s just being so mean to the philipino’s….
