16th Panaad sa Negros, A Huge Success

by PromdiBlogger on May 2, 2009

The Panaad sa Negros is an annual festival held every April bringing together 13 cities and 19 municipalies showcasing the best of Negros Occidental in one venue.

Panaad sa Negros was judged Best Tourism Event of 2008 in the Provincial Category by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP). The Panaad Festival features theme pavilions showcasing the history, culture and arts, products, and tourism of the different cities and municipalities of the province.

A crowd of around 15,000 gathered at the Panaad Stadium during the Panaad opening ceremonies last April 16. Sec. Joseph “Ace” Durano gave the keynote address. He noted that Panaad sa Negros was the first Provincial Expo in the country showcasing the best of Negros Occidental.

The highlight of the opening ceremonies was the Festival Dance Competition. Not even the rain dampened the spirits of the competing groups. Everybody did their best but like any competition, there has to be a winner. The Bailes de Luces bagged the First Place while Kalag-Kalag of Isabela and Pintaflores of San Carlos City were Second and Third Places, respectively.

One of the highlights and probably the most awaited events of the Panaad Festival was the Search for Lin-ay Sang Negros. Twenty four Lin-ay Sang Negros candidates from the different cities and municipalities of the province.

It was 16-year old Lin-ay Sang Talisay Vickie Marie Milagrosa Rushton who was crowned Lin-ay Sang Negros 2009. Rushton also took home the Best in Swimsuit and Evening Gown awards and was chosen as Miss Globe, Miss Watsons and Miss Circulan.

First Runner-Up was Ciara Mae Pirote of Himamaylan who was also the Muse of the Media while Second Runner-Up was  Rajevie Ravindrakumar of Escalante City.

It was raining almost every night during the week of the Panaad Festival but despite that, the crowd has been overwhelming. It was probably one, if not the most, attended Panaad Festival.

Here’s videos of the Festival Dance Competition and Lin-ay Sang Negros pageant.
